BOJ Combo — USD/JPY robot

Subscription · $69 / 30 days · $399 / year · all robots

A rare, one-directional strategy on the yen. Two modules — one hunts, one traps — and both of them only ever sell. In seven and a half years of testing it took 124 positions and not a single long. If you want something that trades every day, this is not it.

Backtested results, not a live account record. Test window 1 Jan 2019 – 31 Jul 2026 on USD/JPY, $10,000 start, 1:500 leverage, MetaTrader 5 “every tick based on real ticks” model. Hypothetical results are produced with hindsight and cannot reproduce real slippage or gaps. Past performance does not indicate future results, and you can lose money. See the Risk Disclaimer.

The two drawdown numbers — and why one of them looks alarming

This robot reports two very different drawdowns, and quoting either one alone would be dishonest:

MeasureAmountOf the account
Balance drawdown — money actually lost$1,333.466.01%
Equity drawdown — including open positions$6,167.8737.21%
Absolute equity drawdown — below the starting deposit$18.470.18%

The 37% figure is unrealised profit handed back, not capital lost. On 3 January 2019, during the yen flash crash, the robot took two shorts and was up about $2,300 within eight hours; at the peak the floating profit lifted the account near $16,500 before price rebounded and the positions closed lower than that peak. MetaTrader measures that give-back from the peak, so it lands in the equity drawdown column.

The proof that it was not a loss: across the whole 7.6 years, the account was never more than $18.47 below its starting deposit, and the balance never closed below it at all. We publish all three numbers because the middle one, quoted alone, would frighten you for the wrong reason — and quoting only the first would flatter us.

The public track was opened in August 2026 and has very little history yet. We link it so you can watch it fill in, not as evidence of anything today.

A one-directional robot is exposed to a sustained move against it. Automation removes hesitation, not risk. Nothing here is investment advice. See the Risk Disclaimer.
